Capri at a glance

Capri lies in the Gulf of Naples and is reached by boat only. Ferries land at Marina Grande, the main harbor. From there a funicular climbs to Capri Town and the Piazzetta, and a bus runs on to Anacapri, the island's second town. Both town centers are explored on foot.

This guide covers the island and the ports you leave from: the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), boat tours, Anacapri and Monte Solaro, the Faraglioni rocks, Villa Jovis, Villa San Michele, the Gardens of Augustus, beaches, weather, hotels and the ferries from Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast. It is an independent site. It is not run by the municipalities of Capri or Anacapri, a ferry company, a hotel or a tour operator. Prices are in euros, as listed in 2026, and they change.

Good to know in 2026

Points where older guides and booking sites are wrong or out of date.

The Blue Grotto has three costs

The museum ticket is €6 (€2 reduced). The rowboat inside is separate, listed at €12 in the museum rules and €13 on a travel portal. The boat from Marina Grande adds about €25. The museum price alone is not the total.

Monte Solaro costs more than old guides say

The chairlift operator lists €15 return and €12 one way.

Monte Solaro →

Certosa di San Giacomo

The Ministry of Culture lists €10 for the Certosa. It is closed on Mondays, and two new exhibition rooms opened on 27 May 2026.

Things to do →

Via Krupp is not a safe plan

One travel portal reports a closure after rockfall, another reports a reopening. Do not build a walk around it before you have seen the current status on site.

Gardens of Augustus →

Visitors' cars are banned in season

A regional decree of 25 March 2026 bars cars, motorcycles and mopeds of non-residents, rentals and foreign plates included, from 30 March to 2 November 2026 and from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. A hotel booking alone is not listed as an exception.

Naples airport in November

The airport operator announced on 21 September 2026 that the airport closes in November 2026 for runway work. An earlier municipal notice named 10 to 30 November. Ask your airline before you book a flight and a ferry on the same day.

Capri: frequently asked questions

How do I get to Capri?

By boat. Fast passenger boats leave Naples from Molo Beverello in about 50 to 60 minutes, conventional ferries take about 80 minutes. From Sorrento the crossing takes about 30 to 40 minutes. From Positano and Amalfi, NLG lists seasonal sailings from 1 April to 3 November 2026. See Naples, Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast.

Is the Blue Grotto always open?

No. It closes when the sea or weather is unfavorable, and a reservation gives no entry guarantee. Plan a second option for the day. The Blue Grotto page has prices and opening hours.

Can I visit Capri in one day?

Yes, the crossing from Naples is 50 to 80 minutes and from Sorrento 30 to 40 minutes. Check the last return sailing for your date before you plan the day, and keep the Blue Grotto and the weather in mind. See things to do for a realistic selection.

Can I bring a car to Capri?

Not as a visitor in season. The 2026 decree covers 30 March to 2 November 2026 and 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027, rentals and foreign plates included. Plan on boats, buses, the funicular and taxis.

When is the best time to visit?

The tourist season runs from about April to October, when boat tours and most hotels operate. Some beach restaurants close from mid October. The weather page shows monthly figures for Naples, which is the nearest reference.

Is capri-italy.com the official site?

No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the municipalities of Capri or Anacapri, the Campania region, ferry companies, hotels or tour operators.
