Capri Boat Tours Compared

Capri boat tours differ in length, in who owns the boat and in whether the Blue Grotto is part of the price. This page compares published 2026 examples and lists what to check before you book.

How Capri boat tours differ

There are three main kinds. A shared round-island cruise leaves from Marina Grande and circles the island in about an hour or two. A direct transfer to the Blue Grotto only takes you to the cave. A private boat with a skipper follows a route you agree on, usually for two hours, and includes a swim stop.

The examples below come from single operators and resellers. They show what one product costs, not a market range. Listed prices are from-prices, the final price depends on the date and options, and a published offer does not show free seats on your day. The sea decides what runs: boats do not leave in rough water.

The tour types in detail

What each one involves.

Shared round-island cruise

The Motoscafisti offer starts at Marina Grande, names Molo 0 and lets children up to 5 ride free. The Grotto entry is not included. If the expected wait at the cave is longer than 45 minutes, the stop is skipped and a separate transfer option is offered.

Scheduled island boat

Laser Capri departs from Molo 23 in Marina Grande, about every 30 minutes between 09:00 and 16:00 on its itinerary page, and suspends trips in rough seas. The fare covers neither Grotto entry nor the rowboat. From April to October the ticket is valid 3 days before or after the booked day. Cancellation is possible up to 48 hours before, according to the operator.

Ferry plus island cruise

The NLG Blue Tour package combines the crossing from Naples to Capri, the island cruise and the return for €80 per adult. Grotto entry is not named as part of the package.

Naples to Capri →

Private boat with a skipper

The Capri Blue Wave listing offers free cancellation up to 5 days before and either a cost-free cancellation or a rebooking in bad weather. The Waves of Capri listing allows cancellation up to 24 hours before and excludes passengers with limited mobility and anyone over 100 kg. That limit is part of this one offer, not a rule for all Capri boats.

Grotto stops: what they really mean

The Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra) is run separately from every boat tour. A boat takes you to the entrance, but you change into a small rowboat for the cave. The museum ticket is €6 (€2 reduced) and the rowboat is listed at €12 to €13. A tour that says Grotto stop does not mean you will get in.

The cave closes when the sea is unfavorable. A pre-booked transfer is not an entry guarantee, and an expected queue can cancel the stop. Italian media reported on 23 July 2026 that a rowboat took on water after touching rock in a wave, an incident from a few days earlier. It shows how much the swell matters. Do not plan a swim at the entrance after closing time: operators say access after closing is prohibited.

Full prices and hours are on the Blue Grotto page.

Caves and rocks on the route

What the listings name, and what they do not promise.

Named stops

The Capri Blue Wave listing names Grotta Bianca, Grotta Verde, the Champagne Grotto, the Faraglioni, the Arco Naturale, Villa Malaparte and Punta Carena. The Waves of Capri listing names Bianca, Verde and the Faraglioni.

Swimming

A swim stop on a tour is not a general permit to swim at any cave or rock. Follow the skipper and local warning signs.

The arch

Not every boat passes under the arch of the middle Faraglione. Ask what the route includes if it matters to you.

Capri day trip

Getting to the island is part of the plan.

From Naples

Fast boats leave Molo Beverello and cross in about 50 to 60 minutes. A conventional ferry takes about 80 minutes. Caremar lists €14.80 for the ferry and €21.50 for the fast boat, NLG €25 (2026).

Naples to Capri →

From Sorrento

The crossing takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Caremar lists €17.40 and NLG €22 (2026).

Sorrento to Capri →

From Positano and Amalfi

NLG lists sailings from 1 April to 3 November 2026 for €24 one way. Times depend on the weather.

Amalfi Coast to Capri →

On arrival

A landing fee of €5 per person applies from 1 April to 31 October (€2.50 from 1 November to 31 March), unless the final price already shows it. Check the last return sailing before you book a late tour.

What to check before you book

The wording differs more than the prices do.

What is included

Check for Grotto entry, rowboat, swim stop, skipper and landing fee. None of these is a given.

Cancellation and weather

Terms differ by operator. Private boats list their own rules. For all others, read the terms before you pay.

Group rules

Italian press reported in February 2026 that organized groups on the island are limited to 40 people, with headphones for groups of more than 20. The rule concerns guided groups, not individual visitors.

Capri boat tours: frequently asked questions

What is the best boat tour on Capri?

That depends on what you want. A shared round-island cruise is the cheapest way to see the coast. A private boat adds a swim stop and a route you agree on. The table compares single examples, not a ranking.

How much does a Capri boat tour cost?

The examples above range from €25 per person for a shared cruise to €250 per boat for a private two-hour trip. Extras such as Grotto entry change the final price.

Does the tour include the Blue Grotto?

Not in the examples above. Museum entry and the rowboat are separate, and the cave can be closed.

Can I swim during a tour?

Private offers list one swim stop. The shared round-island cruise lists none.

Do boats run in winter?

The round-island offer runs from 1 April to 31 October 2026. The Laser Capri ticket rules cover November to March too, but trips stop when the sea is rough.
