How to choose among 15 things to do
Capri splits into three bases. Anacapri has Villa San Michele and the Monte Solaro chairlift. Capri Town has the Piazzetta, the Certosa, the Gardens of Augustus and the walks to Villa Jovis and the Arco Naturale. The coast has boat trips, the Faraglioni and the swimming spots. Some places need a bus, a boat or a long walk, so a day rarely holds more than three or four of them.
The list is a selection, not an official ranking. There is no single island ticket: museums, buses, boats and beach clubs all charge separately. Prices are as listed in 2026, hours change by season, and the sea can cancel a boat plan.

Start here: the island classics
The five things most visitors put first.
1. The Blue Grotto
The Grotta Azzurra is a sea cave you enter in a small rowboat. The museum ticket is €6, the rowboat is €12 to €13 and the boat from Marina Grande about €25 (2026). The cave closes in rough seas.
Blue Grotto guide →2. A boat trip around the island
A round-island cruise from Marina Grande starts at €25 per person and takes about 1 hour 15 minutes, or 2 hours with a Grotto stop (2026 offer, 1 April to 31 October). Grotto entry is not included.
Boat tours compared →3. Monte Solaro by chairlift
The chairlift from Anacapri costs €15 return or €12 one way. From April to October it runs from 09:15 to 17:00, with the last ride down at 17:30. Walking down takes about 1.5 hours.
Monte Solaro →4. Villa San Michele
Axel Munthe's house and garden in Anacapri charges €12 for adults and €8 for youths, and children under 12 enter free. The garden is open from 09:00 to 19:00 in June to August and closes completely in February.
Villa San Michele →5. The Scala Fenicia
This old staircase has about 900 steps and links the harbor with the area around Villa San Michele. Wear good shoes and carry little. It is not a step-free alternative to the bus.

Anacapri and the west coast
Two more stops beyond Villa San Michele.
6. Casa Rossa
The red house in Anacapri was built from 1876 to 1899 for John Clay MacKowen and is now a state museum. Entry is €5. Hours are 10:00 to 18:00 from May to September and 10:00 to 16:00 from October to April, with the last entry 15 minutes earlier.
7. Punta Carena
The rocky headland in the far west of Anacapri has the red lighthouse, flat rocks for swimming and the beach club Lido del Faro. It works as a swimming and viewing stop.
Capri beaches →Capri Town and its walks
Five places within walking distance of the Piazzetta.
8. The Piazzetta
Piazza Umberto I is the town's open-air living room, with the clock tower and café tables. The funicular from Marina Grande takes about 4 minutes and usually runs every 15 minutes.
9. The Gardens of Augustus
The terraced gardens cost €2.50, and children under 12 enter free. Tickets are valid for 15 days from the chosen date. The Via Krupp below the gardens is a separate matter: its status is unclear, so do not plan a route around it.
Gardens of Augustus →10. The Certosa di San Giacomo
The former monastery houses the archaeological museum. Entry is €10 (€2 reduced). It is open from 10:00 to 18:00 from March to October, to 16:00 from November to February, and closed on Mondays. Two new exhibition rooms opened on 27 May 2026.
11. Villa Jovis
The ruins of Tiberius's villa stand on Monte Tiberio at the eastern end of the island. Entry is €6. Allow about 45 minutes uphill from the Piazzetta. The museum lists 10:00 to 17:00 from 1 March to 15 October and 10:00 to 16:00 afterwards, while a travel portal lists Monday closures, so confirm the day.
Villa Jovis →12. The Arco Naturale and Pizzolungo
The natural rock arch is reached via Via Matermania. The hiking club CAI describes the loop over Pizzolungo as 3.3 km, about 3 hours and graded E, with slippery sections after rain. A travel portal gives a shorter time for its own route.
Rocks and swimming places
Three ways to meet the sea.
13. The Faraglioni and Punta Tragara
The three rocks are called Faraglione di Terra, di Mezzo and di Fuori, and the middle one has the arch. Punta Tragara and the Gardens of Augustus are viewpoints. Swimming happens at the beach clubs on the coast opposite, and boats do not always pass through the arch.
Faraglioni guide →14. Marina Piccola
Free pebble areas lie on both sides of the Scoglio delle Sirene. Go by bus or taxi, or on foot along Via Mulo. This is a different place from the Marina Piccola port in Sorrento.
Capri beaches →15. Palazzo a Mare and its beach club
The beach club Bagni Tiberio charges €20 for adults, plus €20 for a lounger (2026). A boat from Marina Grande is free for customers, from 09:30 to 18:00. Its pages give two different end dates in September, so ask before you travel late in the season.

Things to do in Capri: frequently asked questions
What is the one thing not to miss?
That depends on the day. The Blue Grotto is the best known, but the sea decides whether it opens. Monte Solaro by chairlift and a walk around Capri Town work in most weather. See the Monte Solaro page.
Is there one ticket for all sights?
No. Museums, buses, the chairlift, boats and beach clubs charge separately. Villa Jovis, the Certosa and Casa Rossa have a €12 combination ticket valid for 30 days. A €15 version adds the Blue Grotto museum entry, sold from 1 March to 1 October, and the rowboat stays extra.
How many sights fit into one day?
Three or four, because buses, steps and ferries take time. A common pairing is Anacapri with the chairlift and Villa San Michele, or Capri Town with the Gardens of Augustus and a walk.
Are the sights open in winter?
Many are, with shorter hours. The Certosa and Villa Jovis list winter hours, Villa San Michele closes in February and the chairlift has about 20 days of maintenance in January and February. Beach clubs and some restaurants close for the season.
Which sights are free?
The Piazzetta, the pebble areas at Marina Grande and Marina Piccola and the town walks cost nothing. Children under 18 enter state museums free, and the first Sunday of the month is free in state museums, though not for the Blue Grotto rowboat.
