Capri hotels: choosing the area first
The island is small, but the places you sleep in are linked by steep roads, a funicular and buses. That is the real difference between the three main areas: Capri town, Marina Grande and Anacapri. This page compares them by access. It does not rank them by price, because the figures below come from single hotels, not from a survey of the island.
This guide is independent and takes no bookings. We name only the hotels whose 2026 price lists we show, as examples of rates, not as recommendations. Check current rates and availability with the hotel.

Capri Town, Anacapri or Marina Grande?
Location differences, not a price ranking.
| Area | Getting around | Close to | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Capri town | On foot inside the center. The funicular links it with Marina Grande, and buses run to Anacapri and Marina Piccola. | The Piazzetta, the town's walking paths, and the walks to the Gardens of Augustus and to Villa Jovis | Villa Jovis is about a 45 minute uphill walk from the Piazzetta, according to a travel portal. |
| Marina Grande | The arrival harbor. Getting up to the town means the funicular or a bus. | Ferry and boat departures, and free bathing areas near the port | Island boat trips list Marina Grande as their meeting port. |
| Anacapri | A bus from Capri town. Anacapri also has direct buses to both marinas. | Villa San Michele, the Monte Solaro chairlift, and the road to the Blue Grotto | The Blue Grotto lies in the Anacapri municipality. Buses and taxis run from Anacapri to the cave. |
These are differences in transport and distance. Nothing here suggests that one area is generally cheaper or more expensive than another.

2026 price examples from two hotels
Single hotels in Capri town, from their own price lists. They are not island averages.
Villa Krupp, Capri town
The 2026 list uses a single season from April to October. A double room with a garden view is €220, a panorama room €250 and a sea panorama room on the first floor €290. A single room is €160. Breakfast, service and taxes are included in the list.

What the examples show
Rates within one town run from €160 for a single room to €1,600 for a suite, and one hotel's rate changes with the date. The lists do not cover Anacapri or Marina Grande.
Season and winter
Open dates differ by house.
The usual window
The price lists above start in mid-April and end in mid-October at the latest. Island boat trips run from 1 April to 31 October in 2026. Outside that window, fewer services run.
Winter closures
Not all hotels close in winter. A regional list of open hotels named specific closing periods for winter 2025/26, and those dates do not carry over to 2026/27. Ask the hotel directly if you plan to come between November and March.
What else shrinks
The funicular is reported to go into maintenance between January and March, and the Monte Solaro chairlift is closed for about 20 days between January and February. Villa San Michele is closed in February.
Weather and travel seasons →Getting to your hotel
Luggage, cars and fees.
No car
Cars, motorcycles and mopeds that do not belong to residents are banned from 30 March to 2 November 2026 and from 28 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. A hotel booking alone is not an exemption.
The landing fee
The fee of €5 per person from 1 April to 31 October (€2.50 in winter) is added to the ferry ticket. It is a separate charge from anything the hotel bills. Ask the hotel whether a local overnight tax applies and how it is billed.
Accessibility
Villa San Michele states that its building is not accessible to people with reduced mobility. Steps and slopes are common across the island, so ask the hotel about its own access.

Capri hotels: frequently asked questions
Where is the best place to stay on Capri?
It depends on your plans. Capri town suits the Piazzetta and the walking paths, Anacapri suits Villa San Michele and the Monte Solaro chairlift, and Marina Grande suits early boats.
Is Anacapri cheaper than Capri town?
Do not assume it. There is no general price ranking of the areas here, and the 2026 examples on this page are from Capri town only.
How much does a hotel on Capri cost?
The two 2026 lists above range from €160 for a single room to €1,600 for a suite. A standard double at one hotel is €470 in high season and €330 in the shoulder season. These are examples, not averages.
Do Capri hotels close in winter?
Some do. A regional list for winter 2025/26 named closing periods, so confirm the dates for 2026/27 with the hotel.
Do I pay the landing fee at the hotel?
No. It is added to the ferry ticket on trips to the island. It is separate from the hotel bill.
