Villa San Michele at a glance

Villa San Michele is the house and garden of Axel Munthe on Viale Axel Munthe in Anacapri. It is not a villa of Tiberius and it is not in Capri town. Villa Jovis is the ruin on the eastern side of the island.

The terrace looks over the bay, and a sphinx stands there. Plan a visit together with the Monte Solaro chairlift, since both are in Anacapri and a bus connects them with Capri town.

Visiting the villa

Tickets, access and the stairs.

Tickets

Adults pay €12, youth and students €8, and children under 12 enter free. School visits cost €4. The operator gives no exact age for youth. Reservations

Check the villa's website for the current booking rules before you go. Groups should contact the villa beforehand.

Access for people with reduced mobility

The operator states that the building is not accessible to people with reduced mobility because of its levels and stairs. Plan accordingly.

The Scala Fenicia

The old stairway of about 900 steps connects the harbor with the area of the villa. The operator recommends good shoes and no heavy luggage. It is not a step-free alternative to the bus.

Getting there

Take the funicular from Marina Grande to Capri town and then the bus to Anacapri. The bus operator ATC lists the Capri town to Anacapri line in its current timetable, so check it before you go.

Choosing a day

The villa keeps its longest hours from June to August, when it stays open until 7 p.m. In January, November and December it closes at 3:30 p.m., and in February it is closed. A winter visit therefore needs an early start and a check of the days.

The photo shows a white patio with columns. Combine the villa with the chairlift, which also runs on a seasonal schedule.

3. Casa Rossa

The house costs €5 and is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May to September and to 4 p.m. from October to April. The last entry is 15 minutes before closing.
